Riviera Maya

Riviera Maya is known for its smaller population and strip of hotels between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen. It has been a well-established tourist destination for several decades. The hotels in this region are typically smaller and vary between adults-only and family-friendly accommodations. Compared to Cancun, Riviera Maya has a more laid-back relaxed vibe similar to the ocean water. You will find more waves and surf on the shore in Cancun, whereas the waters in Riviera Maya, along the Yucatan Peninsula, are calmer and more peaceful due to the natural barrier reef. As far as the terrain Riviera Maya is famous for its cenotes, wetlands, and coral reefs. Fun fact: Riviera Maya’s coastline is a part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, the second-largest coral reef system in the world and a habitat to fish, turtles, rays and sharks! The Yucatan Peninsula is also known for its incredibly beautiful beaches, tropical rainforests, jungles, and of course its Mayan culture.
